The central working committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), main constituent of the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) is to meet during the weekend to decide its political strategy about the question of holding elections to the Western, Southern, North Central, Uva and Central Provincial Councils in the south within next three months. The meeting has been summoned in the wake of the outright victory for the UPFA in Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council (SPC) and North Central Provincial Council (NCPC) last Saturday, political sources said.

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers in their sentry post along Jaffna lagoon on finding a male corpse with gun shot wounds washed ashore Monday morning informed Jaffna police, sources in Jaffna said. Jaffna District Magistrate, Vasanthasenan, who visited the site held inquiries and directed the police to hand over the corpse to Jaffna Teaching Hospital mortuary.

A 27-year-old Public Health Inspector and his 34-year-old friend who were among the devotees, allowed to enter Ponnaalai Varadarajah Perumaa’l temple inside the Sri Lanka Army High Security Zone (HSZ) at the entrance to the Kaarainakar island in Jaffna, have been reported missing on Sunday.
