Sri Lanka: Family man shot dead, youth injured in Vadamaraadchi

Unidentified armed men on motor cycle arriving at the house of a family man in Valveddiththu?rai Maavadi area in Vadmaraadchi, shot and killed him Wednesday around 1:30 p.m. Point Pedro Additional magistrate Allex Rajah visited the site and held the inquest into the death. Meanwhile, Wednesday morning, a youth with gunshot wounds had left the hospital in Thunnaalai, Vadamaraadchi immediately after having his wounds dressed saying he feared for his life, hospital sources said.

Sri Lanka: Journalist Tissanayagam further remanded

Sunday Times columnist J.S.Tissanayagam and two others were ordered further remand till September 9 Wednesday by the Colombo Chief Magistrate, Manjula Thilakaratne when they were produced in court. Mr.Jaseeharan and Ms Valarmathi who had been running the printing press, were the other two suspects, legal sources said.

Sri Lanka: SLA arrests family man in Vadamaraadchi

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers arrested a family man on suspicion Monday night after 9:00 p.m during curfew hours for being found walking close to the premises of Karaveddi SLA camp in Vadamaraadchi. The arrestee, handed over to Nelliyadi police, was produced in Point Pedro court Tuesday where the magistrate directed the police to produce the suspect before a Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) and obtain a medical report on his health conditions.

Mariyakumar, was abducted Wednesday morning around 6:30 a.m. from his residence along Christ Mawatte in Marawila in Negombo police division by a group of unidentified armed men, according to a complaint lodged by the victim’s with the Marawila Police, sources in Colombo said.

2500 commandos to be recruited to Sri Lanka Air Force

Attempt to recruit 2500 commandos to the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) intended for deployment as ground staff with duties including deactivating mines and bombs, and providing security to high officials of the SLAF, began Monday, SLAF spokesperson Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara told the media. The deployment will begin after necessary training, according to the spokesperson.

Sri Lanka officials complicit in Tamil Genocide? - Washington Times

Asserting that “[t]here is reason to believe that Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has been complicit in a Srebrenica-like genocide or worse against Sri Lanka’s Tamils on the installment plan. Since entering office in November 2005, he has been witness to the extrajudicial killings of more than 1,500 Tamils, torture, scores of kidnappings, countless arbitrary detentions and displacement of more than 250,000, a staggering percentage of Tamils who have not fled abroad seeking asylum,” a commentary in the Washington Times, Wednesday issue, urged the U.S. Justice Department to lead a genocide investigation of Sri Lanka’s Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse, Lt.Gen. Fonseka, and Basil Rajapakse.
